INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

EST provides its interns with the opportunity to become part of New York City's vital off-Broadway community. No other theatre company of EST's stature and history in New York offers the hands-on involvement with theatre professionals that our internship program provides. The Intern Program is a unique way to experience EST and interact with our artist members and staff.

Internships at EST are divided into three disciplines:

  • LITERARY - Read and evaluate scripts for future productions.

  • PRODUCTION - Assist with building sets, hanging lights and other technical areas.

  • MANAGEMENT - Work with the office and production staff on all aspects of theatre management - such as front-of-house and administrative duties (i.e. reception, marketing, fundrasing).

Interns are required to work a minimum of eight hours per week at the theatre. In accordance with individual graduate program requirements, extra hours will be determined with EST's Internship Coordinator and program directors.

    PERFORMANCE LAB

In addition to all the behind-the-scenes work, interns meet once a week for a group Performance Lab led by a member of the EST artistic community. In the Lab, the intern company is encouraged to explore all aspects of the theatre including acting, directing and writing. The lab culminates in a performance, open to the public, on the Mainstage of EST. The shared growth experience of the Lab has led many interns to work together on future artistic endeavors, with EST and independently.
