THE SLOAN PROJECT![]() PROPOSAL CRITERIA The EST/Sloan Project is designed to accommodate a broad range of topics and forms. Virtually anything related to or incorporating the issues, people, themes, ideas, processes, leading-edge discoveries, inventions, and/or history of the "hard" sciences and technology can be considered. (Please note, however, that proposals regarding medical conditions and/or victims of disease are discouraged.) Drafts of scripts are accepted on an ongoing basis year-round, and are handled separately from proposals. ![]() SUBMISSIONS AND EVALUATION PROCEDURES Individuals, creative teams and theatre companies interested in receiving an EST/Sloan Project commission should submit a one page written proposal, which includes a project description with a simple outline or synopsis, and a resume or biography. A selection committee, comprised of EST Artistic Director Curt Dempster, Sloan Foundation Program Director Doron Weber, and other leading artists and scientists, will evaluate the proposals and make final decisions. Candidates may be asked to revise aspects of their proposals, provide writing samples, and/or arrange a meeting to discuss their project as part of the selection process. Commissions will be given to individuals, groups and creative teams for original full-length plays or musicals, one-act plays or musicals, stand-up comedy, monologues, short pieces, dance or performance art. Commissions range from $500 to $10,000. The commitment to the amount will be tailored to the proposal and determined on a case-by-case basis. Deadlines for drafts, deadline for the finished work, and research support (if appropriate) will be determined on a case-by-case basis. This year's festival is slated for early spring 2001. ![]() Proposals and scripts may be mailed, faxed or emailed to: J.Holtham, Sloan Program Manager The Ensemble Studio Theatre 549 West 52nd Street New York, NY 10019 phone 212 247 4982, fax 212 664 0041 email sloanproject@ensemblestudiotheatre.org |
